The international workshop——“BUILDING A GLOBAL COMMUNITY OF SHARED FUTURE FOR BIOSECURITY: DEVELOPMENT OF A CODE OF CONDUCT FOR BIOLOGICAL SCIENTISTS” was held in Tianjin on June 25-27, 2018. The workshop was jointly organized by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, and was hosted by the Center for Biosafety Research and Strategy at Tianjin University. To ensure the successful running of the workshop, graduate students from the Laboratory of Synthetic Microbiology of Tianjin University participated in the service of the workshop as volunteers.
The activity of volunteers included: reception service, conference service, and document preparation during the workshop. During the workshop, each volunteer adhered to his position and never slack off, playing the spirit of “screws”. While conducting conference services, the volunters also listened carefully to the presentation given by representatives of various countries on the global biosafety situation, the review of biotechnology development, the formulation of the “Code of Conduct for Biological Scientists” under the framework of the Biological Weapons Convention, the status of the international non-proliferation mechanism and its strengthening measures, and so on.
The volunteers provided a comfortable and convenient environment for the workshop. Vice versa, the conference enhanced the sense of responsibility and mission of volunteers in their future life.
