Potential biological threats arise from the rapid development of new dual-use biotechnologies, such as synthetic biology and genome editing. How to deal with the threats of biosafety brought about by the misuse and abuse of new dual-use technologies is the key to national safety and security, as well as prosperity. It is also an important measure to implement the overall national security concepts put forward by General Secretary Xi.
In response to such great national and global needs, Center for Biosafety Research and Strategy (CBRS) was established at Tianjin University in September 2016. CBRS was accredited as a national "Strategic Research Base" by of the Ministry of Education of China. The mission of CBRS is to meet the strategic, educational, and technological needs of national and global biosafety and biosecurity.
Research Interests: Biosafety Analysis, National Security, Dual-use Biotechnology, Synthetic Biology, Microbiology, Genomics.
