CBRS activity at Eighth Review Conference to Biological Weapons Convention

2016-11-17
The Eighth Review Conference of the Biological Weapons Convention was held in the Palais des Nations in Geneva from 7 to 25 November 2016. The purpose of the Review Conference is to review the operation of the BWC, relevant scientific and technological developments, as well as progress towards the negotiation of a convention to prohibit the development, production, stockpiling and use of chemical and biological weapons. CBRS experts, delegated by Ministry of Science and Technology, introduced Model Code of Conduct for Biological Scientists (draft) at the BWC Eighth Review Conference.
At the Review Conference, Ambassador Fu Cong, the head of the Chinese delegation, mentioned that Chinese government pays a great attention to biosafety and biosecurity, attaches importance to the role of non-governmental organizations, and has established long-term cooperation with CBRS of Tianjin University. As one of the two proposals from China, Model Code of Conduct for Biological Scientists, mainly drafted by experts of CBRS, attracted widespread attention and praise at the Review Conference.
